This is the test that your eye doctor uses to determine your eyeglass prescription. During a manual refraction, your doctor puts an instrument called a phoropter in front of your eyes and shows you a series of lens choices. He or she will then ask you which of the two lenses in each choice looks clearer.
Glaucoma is evaluated through a comprehensive eye exam that includes tests for intraocular pressure (tonometry), optic nerve damage (ophthalmoscopy, OCT), and peripheral vision loss (perimetry).
Retinal evaluation includes comprehensive eye exams with dilated pupils and diagnostic tests like Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT), fluorescein angiography, and ultrasound to assess the retina's health.
Evaluation of pediatric eye disease involves vision screening and comprehensive eye exams by a pediatric ophthalmologist, using age-appropriate methods like Teller Acuity Cards for infants and visual charts for older children. Treatment depends on the condition and can include glasses for refractive errors, patching or vision therapy for amblyopia (lazy eye), and surgery or glasses for strabismus (squint).
Eye refractive surgery uses procedures like LASIK, PRK, and SMILE to reshape the cornea, or implants a new lens, to correct vision problems such as nearsightedness, farsightedness, and astigmatism.
Phacoemulsification with foldable IOL implantation is a common cataract surgery that uses ultrasound to break up and remove a cloudy natural lens, then inserts a foldable artificial lens through a small incision.
MICS (Micro-Incision Cataract Surgery) is an advanced surgical technique for cataract removal that uses a tiny incision, typically between \(1.8\) and \(2.2\) mm. This smaller incision, combined with foldable intraocular lenses (IOLs), offers significant benefits, including faster healing, quicker visual recovery, and a lower risk of surgically induced astigmatism.
Pterygium excision with conjunctival autograft is a surgical procedure to remove a pterygium (a non-cancerous growth) from the eye's surface and cover the defect with a piece of the patient's own healthy conjunctiva.
DCT eye stands for dacryocystectomy, a surgical procedure to remove the lacrimal sac, which is part of the tear duct system.
A contact lens evaluation is a comprehensive eye exam and fitting to determine the best type of contact lens for your eyes and lifestyle.
An OCT (Optical Coherence Tomography) eye test is a non-invasive imaging procedure that uses light waves to take cross-section pictures of the back of the eye, particularly the retina.
A green laser is used in ophthalmology for photocoagulation, a procedure that uses focused light to treat various retinal conditions by creating thermal seals or scars.
Corneal tomography is a non-invasive eye imaging technique that provides a detailed, 3D map of the cornea by measuring both the anterior and posterior surfaces and the corneal thickness.
YAG laser in ophthalmology is primarily used for a procedure called YAG laser capsulotomy, which treats cloudy vision that can occur after cataract surgery.
Pachymetry is a non-invasive eye test that measures the thickness of the cornea.
The "A-Scan IOL Master 700" is a misunderstanding; the IOLMaster 700 is a biometer that uses Swept Source Optical Coherence Tomography (SS-OCT) technology, which is a significant upgrade from the traditional A-scan method. Instead of A-scan's peaks and valleys, the IOLMaster 700 provides a full-length, detailed image of the eye from cornea to retina, allowing for more accurate measurements and better identification of eye abnormalities. It is used to calculate the correct power for an intraocular lens (IOL) after cataract surgery.
A fundus camera is a specialized camera used in ophthalmology to capture high-resolution images of the fundus (the back of the eye), which includes the retina, optic disc, and blood vessels.
A B-scan in ophthalmology is a non-invasive ultrasound test that uses sound waves to create a two-dimensional, real-time image of the inside of the eye.
A visual field analyser in ophthalmology is a device that maps a patient's field of vision to detect blind spots and deficits in their peripheral and central vision.
